Overview
The Qidenus Robotic Book Scanner is a fully automatic book scanner for large-scale book digitization and 24/7 operation; according to the manufacturer, it is one of the market leaders. Pages are turned by the patented Bionic Finger system, which mimics the natural movement of a human finger and handles every page precisely and gently. Light density sensors measure the density of each page so that only one page at a time is turned and scanned.
The scanner is available in A3+ format (book up to 56 × 37 cm, up to 12 cm thick) and A2 format (book up to 60 × 44 cm, up to 16 cm thick). The book rests in a V-shaped cradle with an 80° opening angle, automated side flaps, and an adjustable spine support, while an automated V-shaped glass plate presses down on the spread. At the push of a button, the scanner switches from automatic mode to semiautomatic or manual mode. The speed is up to 2,500 pages per hour, and the paper weight is 30–350 g/m²; according to the manufacturer, the scanner can operate in compliance with the FADGI and Metamorfoze preservation standards.
