Overview
The DL-mini is an automatic book scanner from the Swiss company 4DigitalBooks; the manufacturer calls it a tool for mass digitization of books. The scanner turns pages and scans books, magazines, registers, and bound newspapers by itself, copes with small books that close on their own, and does not require an operator to be present. In manual mode, the same machine is used to scan photo albums, notebooks, postcards, and manuscripts, as well as loose sheets, inserts, and fold-outs.
The page is picked up by an arm with distributed vacuum and turned by air flow; the air-cushion cradle puts neither pressure nor tension on the spine, and the book opens to 180°. On its own, the scanner centers the book, detects its size, recognizes multi-feeds, and retries. The E-400 model is equipped with a 71 MP i2S EAGLE camera (300 and 400 dpi), and the E-600 with a 156 MP i2S EXTRA camera (300, 400, and 600 dpi); consistent throughput is 1,300 pages/h, and maximum throughput is 1,500 pages/h.
