Overview
scanVpage is a semiautomatic V-shaped book scanner from the Swiss company 4DigitalBooks. Two cameras capture the left and right pages simultaneously, so every shot is a whole spread; according to the manufacturer, throughput is up to 1,300 pages/h. The operator turns the pages by hand, and the mechanics take care of the rest: the book lies in a V-shaped cradle with a 120° opening angle, and the motorized V-shaped glass plate moves away for page turning and comes down to exactly the same position, maintaining a constant focal distance.
The product line includes the scanVpage PRO for pages up to 315 × 540 mm with cameras up to 800 dpi (PRO 400, PRO 600, PRO 800) and the scanVpage JUMBO for pages up to 440 × 640 mm (JUMBO 400, JUMBO 600). The cradle is raised by a motor and measures the book thickness automatically: it accepts books up to 150 mm thick and weighing up to 20 kg. Glass pressure is adjustable from 0 to 20 kg, the safety system stops and retracts the glass plate if the operator’s hands are still on the book, and the unscanned area at the binding is only 2 mm. According to the manufacturer, the scanner meets the requirements of FADGI ***, Metamorfoze, and ISO 19264.
