Overview
The EDS GAMMA is a desktop A1 reproduction system from the Italian company METIS Systems (Rome) for digitizing books, maps, drawings, and other originals in libraries, museums, and archives. The capture area is up to 90 × 60 cm, which is larger than A1 (84 × 59.4 cm). The integrated zoom lens with motorized focus and the variable camera height make it possible to vary the area size and the resolution: more than 800 ppi on small formats. The scanner works with FUJI GFX100S II (102 MP) or Canon EOS R5 (45 MP) mirrorless cameras.
Originals are placed on the METIS V-table, made up of two independent plates that tilt and shift; it gently holds even old books with a limited opening angle, and books can be up to 15 cm thick. Four independently adjustable LED lamps deliver a total of 3,800 lm with a CRI of 93 and consume only 4 × 17 W; light from above reduces shadows at the spine, while side lighting improves uniformity on large flat originals such as maps and drawings. Capture takes less than a second, and the full cycle with processing and saving takes approximately 2 s.
